Part 02

Reading the block record

What the record shows at the cutoff and after the harvest: a finding, a withheld record, or candidates for review.

Reading the record

Wood imports › Harvest blocks

Read every block with no record yet queues a read across the whole register in one pass. A block that cannot be read is marked with a plain reason and the rest of the batch continues. Reading the same block again, once a later year of the record is published, is reached through the API.

A block's panel

Wood imports › Harvest blocks › a block

Clicking a block on the map or in the table opens its panel: its type, country of harvest, harvest window and species, the outcome and its sentence, any flag, and what was read, forest at the cutoff and compact clearing after it. Where the record also read the newest Sentinel-2 looks, the panel names how many scenes and the dates they span.

What the record shows

The record reads the Landsat moist-forest record and the Commission's 2020 forest maps over the block, and reports one of three things.

The record saysIt means
Forest retained after harvest The block's 2020 forest is still forest on the record, with no clearing of it in compact patches after the cutoff.
Forest standing to record end The same reading, where the harvest window runs into or past the record's own last year; read the block again once the next year is published.
Candidates for review Clearing of the block's 2020 forest in compact patches after the cutoff, with its area, the years it happened in, and what the ground reads as now. This names ground for a closer look; it is not a finding either way.
Withheld The open record cannot answer for this block, for one of the reasons below.

A withheld record carries one of these reasons:

The degradation flag

Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 asks two things of wood: that the block was not converted to another use, and that harvesting it did not turn a natural forest into a plantation or other wooded land. The record carries a flag beside a review where the Commission's forest-type map calls most of the block's forest primary or naturally regenerating, and part of the ground cleared in compact patches reads as tree plantation afterwards. This is the question the flag names; it is not named on a block whose forest was already planted, where a clearing that regrows is a rotation rather than a change of kind.

A second flag can ride beside a review on ground in Indonesia, where the block's boundary intersects a licensed pulpwood concession on the published layer. The record states the intersection; it carries no further detail from that layer.

Compact clearing, and what it leaves out

Compact clearing is clearing in patches rather than in strips or lines, which leaves out roads and log landings: a managed forest keeps both open, and the Regulation does not count them as degradation.

The block record document

Downloaded per block, the record states the outcome in one sentence, the block's reading at the cutoff and after it, by year where clearing was dated, any flag that applies, and the sources: the Landsat moist-forest record, the Commission's 2020 forest maps, and, where read, the published drivers of loss and the Indonesian pulpwood concession layer. It is one input to your own determination under Articles 9 to 11, not a determination on its own.
