The four verdicts, every reason code in plain words, and what gives the clearest results.

The four verdicts

Each verdict appears in the register under its label, and in the API under its name.

Register label	API verdict	Meaning
Established before the cutoff	`prior_management_evidenced`	Established plantation before the cutoff; the record and the structural readings agree.
Withheld	`prior_management_weak`	Supporting evidence only; the reason beside it says what withheld it.
No canopy cycle found	`no_prior_management_evidenced`	No annual canopy cycle over a well-observed record, over ground a structural reading places in the forest range.
Record too thin	`insufficient_record`	Too few measured seasons.

Where a withheld plot goes next

A withheld plot goes to a planting record, a title document or a field visit, with its reasons attached.

Plot statuses and evidence states

You see	Column	It means
Filable	Status	The boundary passed the geometry checks as imported, and a producer is attached.
Repaired	Status	The boundary passed after a repair made on import that did not move it. The plot's page lists the repair.
Would be rejected	Status	TRACES would refuse it. The plot's page lists every reason.
Needs a producer	Status	The boundary passed the geometry checks, but no producer is attached, so the plot cannot yet go on a statement.
Not checked	Status	The geometry checks have not run on this plot yet.
Queued	Evidence	Waiting its turn to be read.
Reading	Evidence	Being read now. The register refreshes itself until it finishes.
Could not be read	Evidence	The read failed and used none of your allowance. Press Run evidence on filable plots to retry it.

Reason codes in plain words

The register shows the reason in words beside the verdict. The API returns it as reason, with the full list in reasons.

cycle and structure agree	`cycle_and_structure_agree`	The canopy went through its annual cycle in every measured season, and the structural readings agree.
structure confirmed, one trough	`structure_confirmed_single_trough`	The annual cycle was confirmed in one season, and a structural instrument confidently reads crop.
two confident readings	`shade_veto_overruled_by_two_confident_readings`	The optical reading of canopy structure looked forest-like, but the radar and the canopy height both confidently read crop.
a structural reading says forest	`structural_reading_says_forest`	A structural instrument read the canopy as forest-like.
cycle not seen every season	`cycle_not_consistent`	The annual canopy cycle appeared in some measured seasons and not in others.
no structural reading	`no_structural_reading`	No structural instrument could answer over this plot.
one reading, not enough on its own	`single_structural_reading_short_of_margin`	Only one structural instrument answered, and not with confidence.
terrain outside range	`terrain_outside_characterised_range`	The ground is steeper than the instruments were tested on.
evergreen canopy, no cycle	`evergreen_canopy_unsupported`	No annual canopy cycle, though a structural reading or the radar says the ground is cultivated.
no canopy cycle	`no_canopy_cycle`	No annual canopy cycle over a well-observed record.
record too thin	`record_too_thin`	Too few seasons could be measured.
archive imagery review available, contact us, beside the reason	`plot_below_evidence_floor`	The plot is under 4 ha. The API lists it in `reasons` after the reason the instruments reached, and no positive finding is issued from the open record on a plot this size.
inside licensed pulpwood concession	`inside_licensed_pulpwood_concession`	A positive reading on a plot in Indonesia that overlaps a licensed pulpwood concession. The reason the instruments reached follows it in `reasons`.
concession layer unavailable	`concession_layer_unavailable`	A positive reading on a plot in Indonesia whose concession check could not be made. Reading the plot again through the API settles it.
Landsat record reads undisturbed forest	`landsat_record_reads_undisturbed_forest`	The Landsat record classes most of the plot as undisturbed moist forest at the end of 2020, so a positive finding is withheld.
Landsat record unavailable	`landsat_record_unavailable`	On ground in Indonesia or Malaysia, the Landsat record could not be read, so a positive finding is withheld.
planted forest in 2020	`planted_forest_2020`	The Commission's 2020 forest-type map classes most of the plot as planted forest, which the Regulation counts as forest, so a positive finding is withheld.

What gives the clearest results

Plots of 4 ha or more in Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Indonesia or Malaysia, the regions with a completed control campaign.
The plot's real country set, on the producer or in the import, so the document reads against that country's campaign.
One crop per boundary. The campaigns were measured on blocks of a single cover.
Indonesia. A positive finding is withheld on a plot that overlaps a licensed pulpwood concession, and the reason says so.

Under 4 ha, and on shaded cocoa, the document is supporting evidence: the verdict comes back Withheld with the reasons attached. For those plots the route is a review of archive imagery dated before the cutoff; contact us to arrange it.
