The three lines that settle an argument
Before any number leaves the studio, read these three.
| Line | Where | What it settles |
|---|---|---|
| Posture | Layer card, result badge | What the number is licensed to support. See Posture. |
| Coverage | Result panel | What fraction of the ground was measurable, and what the percentages are a fraction of. See The Result panel. |
| Provenance | Result panel | Which engine, which version, which granule, and when. |
Refusals, and what to do about each
The studio declines rather than guessing. Each refusal names its reason on screen. This is what each one means.
| You see | It means | Do this |
|---|---|---|
| Limited by band width | The layer computes, but this sensor cannot separate it from a neighbouring layer. | Use EMIT if the separation matters, or treat the pair as one measurement. |
| Not measurable | Fewer than 100 valid pixels, or below the fraction needed to summarise the area. | Nothing. Another date will help, because this is weather rather than terrain. The pixels that did see ground are still mapped. |
| Not scored | Too much of the area is hidden by cloud, vegetation or low signal for a score to describe anything. | Re-run on a clearer acquisition. |
| Statistics cover the bounding box | The summary numbers were computed over the rectangle enclosing your boundary rather than over the boundary. Identical on a drawn rectangle; material on an uploaded boundary or a corridor. | Re-run the analysis. The map and the layers are correct either way; only the summary changes. |
| No comparison possible | Only one analysis exists over this area on this sensor and engine, or every one is a re-run over a single acquisition. | Run the same layers on a second acquisition. |
| This layer needs a paid plan | The layer's method is editorial, fitted, or a library fit. | The message names the plan that unlocks it. |
| Outside the served region | Evapotranspiration covers the conterminous United States for now. | Nothing yet. |
| A mismatched wire will not latch | A workflow port takes one payload type and you offered another. | The input names the type it accepts. Insert the step that produces it. |
| Verification required | Image orders need a verified workspace. | Complete verification from Settings before returning to the Order Desk. |
Glossary
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| AOI | Area of interest. The boundary everything is scoped to. |
| Granule | One satellite acquisition, identified by a string encoding the sensor, the date and the orbit. |
| Band depth | How deep an absorption is at a given wavelength, once the surrounding continuum has been removed. |
| Continuum removal | Dividing out the broad shape of a spectrum so that a narrow absorption can be measured against a flat baseline. |
| Fit quality | How well a library spectrum explains a pixel, from 0 to 1. |
| Mapped area | The ground a statistic was actually computed over, after masking. Always smaller than the imaged area. |
| COG | Cloud-optimised GeoTIFF. A georeferenced raster a GIS can open directly. |
| dNBR | The difference in Normalised Burn Ratio between two dates, classified on published thresholds into burn severity. |
| Enhancement | For a matched-filter product, how far a pixel sits above the scene's own background, in the units of the target gas. |
| Sensitivity | The smallest enhancement distinguishable at that pixel, at one standard deviation. A per-pixel property rather than a constant. |
| Posture | What kind of claim a layer's number supports. Seven exist; see part four. |
Where to go next
- The How it works panel and the five guided tours are always one click away at the foot of the rail. See part one.
- Lisaris will explain any result you have open and price an analysis before you run it. See part two.
- Every layer card carries its own limits and validation text, unedited. See part four.
- If you are integrating rather than clicking, the API reference is linked from Settings › API keys.
